I find this sort of thing funny…

I just looked at the top 3 searches on yahoo, and if you read them out linearly it looks like this:

Hannah Montana are you smarter than Clay Aiken

That for some reason makes me laugh… I must be overworked

New Mac and a Treadmill Run

•January 17, 2008 • No Comments

The first rule of fight club is…

Wait… this isn’t fight club

We got the new MacBook tonight I’m really excited. I think my wife is excited too, but I’m more excited. I want a new one! My powerbook’s little 12″ screen looks far inferior now!In spite of the fact that I ummm I mean we got a new Mac, I still managed to put in a little quality time on the TM.

The rain/snow/sleet mix kept me off the streets. I would have liked to have put in 10 miles tonight, but ended up with only 8 in part because I started late, and in part because no matter how interesting I try to make it, the Treadmill is in fact pretty boring.

Another Reason Why Windows Sucks

•January 15, 2008 • No Comments

NFS is not native to windows.  Instead, for file sharing between a linux/unix system, we are forced to use SMB.  This is OK if you’re not transferring large files, but this can be really problematic if you use smbmount or mount smbfs to create a mount between your Linux box and your Windows box.  Basically you can’t copy/move/or read files that are over 2Gigs in size.  That sucks when you are dealing with large video files…

Flipping things around a bit…

I’ve been taking Mondays off, but with a 35k+ race (about 22 miles) this Saturday, I’m switching things up just a bit.  This morning, I ran 3 easy.  I probably ’should’ have run 5 easy, but I was running low on time, so I figured 3 easy would have to do.

Tomorrow I’m thinking of throwing in some shorter than normal intervals.  I’m thinking of something like 7 miles with 4-5 800’s thrown in.

New Toy, but it’s not for me…

I’m happy to say that I just ordered a MacBook today!  Unfortunately it’s not for me, it’s for my wife.  Hopefully she’ll let me play with it some.  My Powerbook G4 is still going strong.  I do think that I might be able to talk her into letting me get a Mac Desktop - maybe in time for Christmas.  We’ll have to see how the finances are then.

Long Run

Today I had a pretty good long run.  Good in the sense that I was constantly challenged, and my body adapted to the challenges.   The run started with a group of about 7 of us.  Some of us were planning on running 14, and others (myself included) planned on 18.  A few of the 14 milers set a fast pace early on.  I decided to try to hang.  I was able to hang on pretty well along with the one other runner who was running 18.   I think we were both a little shocked when all of the 14 milers decided to cut it short, and run more like 11-12 miles.  Their loss - we continued on our mission, and we didn’t even drop the pace too much.  Finished up the 18 miler with an average pace of 7:28 min/mile.  Not too shabby.

easy way to find large files

find / -type f -size +20000 -exec ls -lh {} \;| awk '{ print $9 ": " $5 }'

I’m always looking for clever ways to find large files, I found this one here

I’ve never thought about this concept before ‘Micro Blogging’… hell, I’m relatively new to blogging… that is, I’ve started blogs here and there, but never really kept up with them… anyway, here’s a cool site http://www.twitter.com
